2016
First of all we would like to welcome all our new members of 2016! This is our first newsletter of the year and we have many events to highlight. Many of our members enjoyed our social events including the NSW Doctor’s Orchestra, Annual Mentor Dinner and Educational Events. Keep reading to see whats happening!
The annual mentor-mentee dinner was held on Friday March 18 at El-Phoenician Restaurant, 328 Church St, Parramatta at 7pm. Our speaker was Stephen Milgate. It is wonderful to be able to socialise with the doctors of the future. Many come from overseas to study at the Nepean Campus and we welcome them to the Nepean medical community! To become involved please contact Dr Adrian Sheen on email: dracsheen@gmail.com
On 24th of May, we had a wonderful education night on the topic “What goes around – Zika Virus, Dientamoeba Fragilis and Respiratory Viruses”by Dr Michael Wehrhahn.
In collaboration with Castlereagh Imaging, our next Educational Night will be “What GPs Need to know about MSK Imaging” delivered by Dr James Linklater. It will be held on 14th of June, 7pm, at Lakeside Resturaunt, Penrith Lakes.
In 2015 the NMA awarded five scholarships to students who went to electives in under privileged areas. Two of these were sponsored by the Nepean Private Hospital. Our recipients were: Melissa Smith, Aric Johnson, Siobhan Hensey, Wiraaj Agnihotri and Jeff Forest. Congratulations to all of our students! The accounts of their experiences will be on the website later in the year.
Memberships are now due for 2016 and fees remain at $90 till June 2017 and $160 till June 2018 for all GPs and specialists. Junior doctor fees remain at $50 for 3 years and medical students are free. Those due to renew will receive an email reminder. Please contact Dr Michelle Crockett if you have any questions regarding membership on info@nepeanmedical.com.au or 9627 0600.
On Sunday May 15 the NSW Doctors Orchestra Lunch and Concert at Chatswood was held. Starting with a delightful lunch at Shanghai Stories Restaurant, our members, mentors and mentees enjoyed a fantastic concert themed “Around the World in 80 Minutes”. In the orchestra was our very own Dr Adrian Sheen! We also had a special attendance of The Honourable Professor Dame Marie Bashir, who joined the Orchestra and played “I still call Australia Home”.
This was a very enjoyable day which we will call for an encore in 2017. Keep an eye out for our newsletters and website or you’ll miss out!
Following the successful previous Careers Night for junior doctors and medical students, the Annual Careers Night will be held this year on 14th of June.
