Hello and welcome to the Nepean Medical Association’s website. This is a new and exciting time for the NMA and medical profession in general. Our use of the Internet has opened opportunities for information sharing and communication that we could only dream about when I was as undergraduate. We hope that this site will develop into a useful resource for medical practitioners. As we increase our use of electronic referrals and communication between health professionals the future is awash with possibilities.
The NMA is committed to maintain its core business as a local association focused on collegiality through its social and charitable activities. Our annual dinner allows local practitioners and their partners to meet socially. The Medical Practitioners Directory will continue to be updated and published annually as a service to our members.
The NMA has increased its interaction with medical students through the Student Mentor Scheme with the University of Sydney Nepean Campus. Started in 2010, the scheme links students with local practitioners. Annual events include the annual dinner and the NSW Doctors Orchestra Concert at the Conservatorium. In May 2012 we ran our first careers night for students which allowed them to interact with local medical practitioners to hear about their profession and their journey to get there.
We have awarded our first student scholarships in 2012 for students going on overseas electives in 2013. Two students have been awarded scholarships of $1000.00 each for working in underprivileged areas around the world.
Our committee meets regularly through out the year to discuss the NMA’s activities. Please feel free to contact us at anytime to discuss any issues or ideas. We welcome your input and look forward to the challenges in the exciting years ahead.
Dr Michelle Crockett.
