Presidents Message

Well, we are once again in lockdown with COVID-19 spreading in the
community. Our respite without COVID was brief, but very welcomed. We hope
that everyone is coping with the current situation both personally and
professionally. Fortunately, Telehealth remains with Medicare rebates and many
meetings are held by Zoom, saving travel time and improving efficiency.

The NMA would particularly like to thank our public health and infectious
diseases clinicians who are working tirelessly through the pandemic to help
keep the public safe. We appreciate their advice and leadership and once again
rely on their expertise as we navigate the current outbreak.

While we were hoping to return to face-to-face meetings, this now looks unlikely
and we have had to cancel our annual dinner for this year. Fortunately, we were
able to hold the Student Welcome Dinner, but with a much smaller number than
other years.

Hopefully we will be able to return to face-to-face meetings in 2022. Not being
able to meet with colleagues has been a major issue during the pandemic.

Stay safe everyone!

Dr Michelle Crockett – OAM

Student Welcome Dinner

On Friday March 12, we held a student welcome dinner at El-Phoenician
Restaurant in Parramatta. This year’s dinner was smaller than our usual dinner,
but was just as successful. We were able to welcome the new students to our
Nepean family while enjoying a delicious meal and fun with the obligatory belly
dancing.

Medical Students welcome dinner.

Education Nights

Like everyone else, the NMA has had to cancel our face-to-face educational
events in 2020 and 2021. Future events will be posted on our website.

Annual Dinner

Our annual dinner was planned for Friday 3rd September but is now cancelled.

Student Scholarships

In 2020, the NMA awarded a scholarship to Christopher Parkes who went to the
Department of Health and Aboriginal Medical Services Alliance Northern
Territory (AMSANT). While Christopher will be unable to present at the annual
dinner, details of his placement will be available on our website.

Best wishes,
Nepean Medical Association
